CCCM Method

About the Method

A student said it best.
After exploring this new approach, one student told me that it felt as though a second lid had opened on her piano. The first, made of wood, protects the keys from dust and damage. The second is invisible: it lifts the veil that obscures the relationships between the keys, revealing the hidden architecture of music itself.

B C D E F G G

The Creative Children Compose Music method is designed to do just that, reveal which keys are connected and once a child sees the connections, composing music is all of a sudden possible.

Which Notes to Use

The answer to this question is so simple that most students need a moment to realize it: any red note goes into any red shape. For the first shape, the C, E or G keys are all correct, and the same is true for the second, third and fourth shapes. Any red note will sound correct. Even four C notes in a row are not wrong.

The same is true for the other two groups of four. Notes 5 to 12 can be filled with any of the white keys (B, D, F) and, as an exception, with the red key too, because G is special and part of both groups.

Erase & Replace

Sometimes, when we make a composition with the Little Composers Piano app, there are one or more notes we didn't mean to play, although we used the correct color.

To improve your melody:

  1. Touch the note you want to erase.
  2. Press a piano key to replace it.

You can erase and replace any notes you want, except the last one, which must always end on C.

Time to Practice!

To start composing your own melodies, load the Little Composers Piano Level One, which lays the foundation for composing real music.
